Ribs & Wonder is a delightful poetry collection that explores the complexities of womanhood, romantic love and social dynamics. It honors ancestry and family with poems like They See and Her Hands, and inspires with poems like Lasso and Sunbird. Whether tickled by commentary on writing in I Write You When You Come, or reminiscing on friendships in Aftertaste, Ribs & Wonder is a poetry collection that will make you grab your favorite drink, sit in a cozy seat and read from cover to cover.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kyra Locke, originally from Detroit, Michigan loves thought-provoking conversation and recently learned she can make a mean lemon meringue pie. The Western Michigan University graduate received her Bachelors of Arts degree in English with an emphasis on creative writing and Japanese language and culture. She studied one year abroad at the Japan Center for Michigan Universities in Hikone, Japan, well before the convenience of email and social media - hence the $700 phone bills. Locke, who also has a Master’s in Education from the University of Phoenix, Southern California campus, had the esteemed honor of having Ribs & Wonder’s opening poem Lasso - one of 13 poems accepted amidst thousands of submissions - published Oprah.com in 2011.

Locke’s background is diverse and helps to bolster her writing. Her imagination has been vibrant since she was a child. The former Ebony Fashion Fair model has lived in her dream place of Southern California for over 20 years and looks forward to exploring the Redwoods in Northern California. Locke plans to spend more time writing and less time thinking about it. She is more of a dog and tea woman, and loves practical gadgets and puzzling. Locke sees more travel, adventure and regular spa days in her future.
